Mason donation facilitates new library books
–Thanks to a $2,500 donation provided by the Thaddeus Sherman Masonic Lodge #196 and Bethlehem Estero Pines chapter number 95, Order of Eastern Star, nearly 400 books in English and Spanish were purchased by the Paso Robles City Library in support of the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District’s Battle of the Books program. The donation was made to the Paso Robles Friends of the Library during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Library on Thursday, Sept. 1.
Representatives of the Thaddeus Sherman Masonic Lodge #196 and the Bethlehem Estero Pines chapter number 95, Order of Eastern Star presented a ceremonial check to Friends of the Library Vice-President, Anne Bell. Masons representatives included Tom Irwin, Connie Jarvis, Runo Lemming, Jerry Harbick, Will Strong, Rod Smiley, Jerry McKinnon, John Linder and Errol and Sharon Bennett.
Also in attendance were representatives from the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District including SuperintendentChris Williams, District Librarian Stephanie Lowe and many school librarians. Mayor Steve Martin, Library and Recreation Services Director Julie Dahlen and City Librarian Angelica Fortin represented the City of Paso Robles at the ceremony. Mayor Martin and Superintendent Williams opened the collection for circulation by cutting a ceremonial ribbon. The books are currently available for checkout at the Paso Robles City Library and Library Study Center.
Battle of the Books is a national reading incentive program for students in third through eighth grades. Students read books and come together within their schools to demonstrate their abilities and to test their knowledge of the books they have read.
