Shriners Hospital to hold
Hilo screenings next week
Shriners Hospitals for Children-Honolulu will hold
screening clinics in Hilo from 8a.m. to 4p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, April
3-5 at the ARC of Hilo at 1099 Waianuenue Ave.
A Shriners Hospital team visits Hawaii Island
frequently to screen new patients with orthopedic conditions who may qualify
for care at the new Honolulu hospital and to provide followup care for patients
who are receiving ongoing care from Shriners Hospital.
This is the first of three planned screenings
this year. Screenings are also planned in August and December. There are two
qualifications for care at Shriners Hospital: Children must be under age 18 and
have an orthopedic condition that can be treated.
All care at the hospital is provided to a
child, regardless of the patient’s family’s ability to pay. The Shriners of the
Aloha Temple also have a patient transportation fund, which is used for
patients from the Neighbor Islands and Pacific Islands who may be eligible for
transportation assistance to receive care at the Honolulu hospital. A doctor’s
referral is not necessary for care at Shriners Hospital.
