New Washing Donated to SHC-LA
Thanks to the Zelzah Shriners for the new washer
A few weeks ago one of the mothers staying at the hospital while her Shriners Kid was recovering at the Hospital told one of the Shrine drivers that the cloths washer was broken and asked if he knew of a laundrymat close by. The word got to some visiting shriners from Las Vages about the broken washer and the Zelzah Shriners donated a new washer for the parents staying with their child at the Shriners Hospital for Children-LA to use.

Zelzah Friend to Friend
Friend to Friend
Dear Brothers, Sisters and Friends,
This is to remind those who already know and to announce to those who don't, that Zelzah Shrines will be holding a "Friend to Friend" information and cocktail hour at the Zelzah Shrine Temple on September 21, 2012, starting at 5:00 PM.
There will be refreshments and hors d' oeuvres along with some information on the different bodies that make up the Masonic Fraternity.
This is an opportunity to bring a friend or neighbor to let them know what we do. Also to let any Masons know about the concordant bodies that they may not have joined.
I would ask all Masons who are on this e-mail to spread the word at your Lodge and also to ask a friend or neighbor to come with you.
If you plan to attend, please contact the Zelzah office so we can get an idea on the count for planning purposes.Note:

Rim of the World BBQ
This weekend the Rim of the World Masonic Lodge 711 will be having their annual BBQ fundraiser for the children’s hospital.
These Masons begin this project months ahead of the date and spend days slowwwwwwww cooking the meat in a closed pit.
All the money is used to benefit the mountain and the children’s hospital. If you get an opportunity, this weekend take a little time and come out and enjoy great food, great people and great entertainment…plus you can see me serving food to the hungry masses. Come out from 12 noon to 5 pm and meet our mountain folks and take in a little of that down-home hospitality that our mountains are famous for.

Shriners sponsor checks for orthopedic, burn problems
Free screenings offered for children
Pueblo's
Al Kaly Shrine will sponsor free screenings Saturday for children who have orthopedic
problems or other health issues related to burns. The screenings will run from
9 a.m. to noon at the Masonic center, 126 Broadway Ave.
The
annual event is open to all children. Patients who are found to need further
care often are referred to one of 22 Shriners International hospitals
nationwide that are dedicated to orthopedic or burn treatment, or both.
Local
children who need treatment for a skeletal or orthopedic issue likely would be
referred to the Salt Lake City hospital, while young burn patients usually are
treated in Galveston, Texas or Sacramento, California
Wayne
McKey, a local Shriners spokesman, said Shriners International pays for
treatment of uninsured patients, while local Shriners may help with
transportation to regional hospitals, as well as food and lodging for family
members during out-of-state treatment.

Masons deliver bikes for reading competition
By Sebastian Moraga
The girl at Snoqualmie Elementary School saw the bicycles arrive at her school and jumped with excitement.
The two bicycles had arrived. Neither was for her, but it did not matter.
The scene repeated itself at Cascade View Elementary School, when the girl at the library looked at the two bicycles and confessed, “I want that black one.”
The girls in question left fifth grade behind a few years back — one was Michelle Pearlstein, secretary at Snoqualmie Elementary and the other was Susan Head, librarian at Cascade View.
“I love this,” said freemason Mark Goodwin, who delivered half of the bicycles purchased by the North Bend Unity Freemasons Lodge. “I absolutely love doing this.”
The lodge raises the money from members and from donations to a Bikes For Books account at Sterling Savings in North Bend, and buys the bicycles from Single Track in North Bend. They donate two bikes to each elementary school in North Bend and Snoqualmie. Schools use the bicycles as incentive for children to read.
Goodwin delivered the bikes to the Snoqualmie schools. Two other Masons made the trip to the North Bend schools.
“This gives every kid a chance,” said Mason Jonathan Seaton.
At Cascade View, students have to read 20 minutes for 20 days per month. The two students who read the most get the bikes.
