Mopeds on the move for charity

By The News-Record staff Gillett, Wy.

Move over Sturgis. Gillette is having its own bike rally this weekend — for charity.

If you’re thinking bandanas and tattoos, think again. This rally is the 13th annual T. Greg Jones Memorial Moped Classic, a benefit race put on by the Powder River Shriners to benefit the organization’s 22 bone and joint and burn hospitals nationwide.

Registration is $25 to enter a moped in the race. All proceeds cover travel expenses for bone and joint and burn victims who need transportation to a Shriners hospital.

The race will start just after 9 a.m. Saturday at Cam-plex Park shelter 4. It will join the Vietnam Wall parade and then head to John Henry’s Kennels before heading back to Cam-plex.

Awards will be given to the contestant with the best costume, smokiest moped, ugliest moped and more.

Call Mark Collins for more information at 299-2466.
