The local Shriners Hospital is counting on a higher profile location and other changes to rev up next weekend’s car tour and show, one of the largest annual benefits for the hospital.

The Capital Concours, which marks its 17th year of benefiting the hospital, is moving the Sept. 19 car show part of the weekend festivities — the Concours d’Elegance — from Rancho Cordova to Capitol Mall near the Capitol.

Organizers wanted a location that was instantly recognizable. With the vista of the Capitol and Tower Bridge, Concours d’Elegance attendees know they “are definitely in Sacramento,” said Alan Anderson, director of development for Shriners Hospitals for Children Northern California.

Concours’ primary sponsors are Von Housen Automotive Group’s Mercedes-Benz dealerships in Sacramento, El Dorado Hills and Rocklin; Snider Leasing Corp. and sister company Elk Grove Toyota; and SureWest Foundation, the nonprofit arm for SureWest Communications.
